MIAMI (AP) - The head of NBCUniversal’s Telemundo Communications Group is retiring.
Don Browne spent the last six years as president of Telemundo, the nation’s second most popular Spanish-language network after Univision. The company announced Tuesday that Browne will leave in early June. A replacement has yet to be named.
In a statement, NBCUniversal executives described Browne as having an intense passion for news and a keen eye for talent. Browne is not Latino but long pushed for a more diverse newsroom and advocated for Hispanic media.
He began his career with NBC in 1979 as NBC News’ Miami bureau chief and played a key role in the company’s 2001 purchase of Telemundo. His retirement comes a month after that of Joe Uva, the CEO of Univision.
