FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) - Baltimore linebacker Ray Lewis says the New York Jets have “no excuses” when they play the Ravens on Monday night with the return of cornerback Darrelle Revis after a 36-day holdout.
In a conference call with New York media Thursday, Lewis says the Jets need to back up their Super Bowl talk. He says coach Rex Ryan’s comments add pressure on the team, which will need to deal with it for the rest of the season.
Lewis played under Ryan when the coach was a Ravens assistant. Lewis says the danger in all the big talk “is writing a check that you can’t cash.”
He adds that he doesn’t fear the Jets’ passing game with second-year quarterback Mark Sanchez, who “struggles a lot when he has to throw.”
