AUSTELL, GA. (AP) - Kenny McKinley’s family, teammates and coaches remembered the Denver Broncos wide receiver as someone who always smiled and brought joy wherever he went.
Several hundred people gathered Monday at a suburban Atlanta church for the 23-year-old’s funeral.
McKinley died last week at his home near Broncos headquarters in Denver. Authorities believe he shot himself in the head because he was depressed following his second straight season-ending knee surgery.
McKinley was a football standout at South Cobb High School in Austell and was a fifth-round draft choice out of South Carolina in 2009.
Among the mourners were coaches, teachers and students from South Cobb, and members of the South Carolina Gamecocks and Denver Broncos teams.
