CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - NASCAR has warned Richard Childress Racing that Clint Bowyer’s car came close to failing inspection after his Chase-clinching drive at Richmond.

Bowyer’s car was chosen by NASCAR for random inspection following his sixth-place finish at the Sept. 11 race. Once back at NASCAR’s research and development center, NASCAR discovered the back end of the Chevrolet was very close to its mandated tolerance levels.

NASCAR still has the car in its possession. Vice president of competition Robin Pemberton says RCR officials are scheduled to review it with the sanctioning body later Tuesday.

Bowyer went into the Chase as the 12th and final seed, but won the opener Sunday at New Hampshire to jump to second in the standings.
