WASHINGTON | An attorney for the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics has asked the leading challenger in the race for Washington mayor to clarify where he feels there were problems that warrant an extension of voting hours.

Vincent Gray’s campaign had asked the board for a citywide voting extension until 10 p.m. because of what he said were problems at polling places including late opening and voters being turned away without explanation.

Alysoun McLaughlin, a spokeswoman for the board, says the board’s attorney has asked the campaign to clarify which precincts it felt were affected.

Gray urged residents to keep voting, despite reported problems. He says his ballot couldn’t be scanned when he voted because of a machine problem.

Elections officials say everyone could still cast a ballot.
