NEW YORK (AP) - Former NFL quarterback Chris Simms has pleaded not guilty to charges he drove his car in New York City while high on marijuana.
The former Tennessee Titans backup quarterback entered the pleas Thursday in a Manhattan courtroom. He pleaded not guilty to charges of driving while impaired by drugs and driving while impaired.
Police say the 29-year-old Simms slurred his words and told them he’d been smoking marijuana before being stopped at a Manhattan checkpoint on July 1. He has denied saying that.
A judge had excused him from an August court date, amid Titans training camp. The team released him last month, and he is now a free agent.
Simms’ father is former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms.
