ASHBURN, Va. | The Washington Redskins are going back to Hunter Smith to be their punter.

Smith’s agent, Thomas Mills, says the kicker will sign with the Redskins on Thursday to replace Josh Bidwell, who is still bothered by a hip injury.

Smith played for the Redskins last season, averaging 41.3 yards per punt. He also missed three games with a pulled groin in his kicking leg.

Bidwell injured his hip while warming up before the Week 3 game against St. Louis and was unable to punt. He returned for Sunday’s game against Philadelphia and punted five times for a 37.2 yard average, but he was not able to practice Wednesday.
