NEW YORK (AP) - A theatrical adaptation of the movie “Sister Act” will be getting its groove on in a Broadway theater.
Producers say the musical based on the 1992 movie starring Whoopi Goldberg will begin performances at the Broadway Theatre in late March with an opening on April 20.
The show has been a hit in London since it debuted there in 2009. Goldberg, who is also a producer, stepped into the role of Mother Superior this summer.
Casting was not immediately announced.
The musical features a score by Alan Menken, who also wrote the songs for “Beauty and the Beast” and “Little Shop of Horrors,” and lyrics by Glenn Slater, who did the same for “The Little Mermaid.” None of the movie’s songs are used.
