NEW YORK (AP) - A person familiar with the process tells The Associated Press that Sandy Alderson has been chosen as the New York Mets’ general manager.

The person said Thursday the announcement probably will come Friday, a day off in the World Series schedule. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

Alderson replaces Omar Minaya, who was fired with manager Jerry Manuel after the team’s second consecutive losing season.

Alderson is the former president and GM of the Athletics and CEO of the Padres. He met Tuesday with the Mets owner Fred Wilpon, his son Jeff and club president Saul Katz for a second interview.

Several other media outlets first reported the hiring.
