LAKE FOREST, ILL. (AP) - The Chicago Bears find themselves in a familiar, sinking position starting a bye week.
Largely because of offensive problems, the Bears are in the midst of their third straight fade following a fast start. After Sunday’s 17-14 loss to the Washington Redskins, they’ve fallen to 4-3 after a 3-0 start. Last year, Chicago went 3-1, then wound up 7-9, and the year before that started 5-3 and ended up 9-7.
The bye week gives them a chance to heal injuries to linebacker Lance Briggs (ankle) and guard Roberto Garza (knee) while also working on an offense that is last in third-down conversions at 17.9 percent. The offensive line also leads the league in most sacks allowed (31).
