ATLANTA (AP) - A person familiar with the decision says the Atlanta Braves will introduce former Florida manager Fredi Gonzalez as their new manager at a news conference Wednesday.
The person, speaking on condition of anonymity because the formal announcement hasn’t been made, told The Associated Press that Gonzalez will be introduced immediately after retiring manager Bobby Cox holds his farewell news conference.
The team released a statement saying it plans “a major announcement” at Turner Field.
Cox retired after the Braves lost to San Francisco in the NL division series Monday night. Gonzalez spent four years as Cox’s third-base coach, then took over as Florida’s manager in 2007. He was fired by the Marlins in June.
