BALTIMORE | A person with knowledge of the situation says head of D.C. schools Michelle Rhee is set to announce her resignation.
Rhee earlier this year fired many teachers based on a system that evaluated in part on students’ standardized test scores.
Her moves got her nationwide recognition and were backed by Mayor Adrian Fenty. That support also helped bounce him out of office in favor of Council Chairman Vincent Gray.
The person told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the decision to resign was mutually made by Gray and Rhee. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because an official announcement isn’t going to be made until Wednesday morning at the Mayflower hotel.
Fenty and Gray are expected to attend.
The resignation was first reported by The Washington Post.
