BERLIN (AP) - Germany will stage next year’s Eurovision Song Contest in the western city of Duesseldorf.
Broadcaster NDR said Thursday that Duesseldorf was chosen over Berlin, Hamburg and Hannover. Hannover is the hometown of Lena Meyer-Landrut, whose triumph won Germany the right to host the annual celebration of europop for the first time since 1983.
NDR says Duesseldorf won mainly because its arena could hold more spectators than the venues proposed by its competitors. It says that more than 24,000 people will be able to attend.
The 2011 final is scheduled for May 14.
