NEW YORK (AP) - The New York Mets plan to hire a new manager by next month’s winter meetings, and Ken Oberkfell has been added to the list of candidates.

Recently hired general manager Sandy Alderson has met with five candidates from within the organization to replaced the fired Jerry Manuel.

Alderson began speaking with those outside the organization Tuesday, starting with Boston bench coach DeMarlo Hale. Rangers hitting coach Clint Hurdle and new Toronto bench coach Don Wakamatsu are scheduled for Wednesday.

Oberkfell has been the Mets’ Triple-A manager the past six years. He will be interviewed Thursday or Friday in the Dominican Republic, where he is managing in the winter league. One or two more candidates may be added.
