PITTSBURGH (AP) - Steelers coach Mike Tomlin is refusing to criticize the NFL for not suspending Oakland defensive end Richard Seymour or the club-record 163 yards in penalties assessed his team during a 35-3 rout of the Raiders on Sunday.
Tomlin said Tuesday he wants his players focusing only on what they can control, and that begins with their preparation for Sunday’s game at Buffalo (2-8).
Tomlin’s remarks likely were intended to ratchet down any of his players’ anger that Seymour was fined $25,000, but not suspended, for his openhanded punch of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
Tomlin also said little about the most penalty-filled game in Steelers’ history. He has said repeatedly he doesn’t want the Steelers (7-3) changing their mindset or approach despite the league’s toughened stance on dangerous hits.
