OPINION:
One of the many problems America is facing today is the undue influence of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries’ (OPEC) cartels. That - coupled with President Obama’s grandstanding during the Gulf oil well blowout and the resulting moratorium on drilling with new regulations delaying future activities - is hurting the economy more every day.
I wonder whose side Mr. Obama is on - America’s or OPEC’s? Renewable energy - wind and solar power - have a nice, politically correct ring but are obviously not practical. Coal is cheap but dirty. We have another source of energy in natural gas - available now from existing fields - and the supply can be increased when needed. Use of this energy for our needs today would lessen the obscene number of dollars going out to countries who do not like America or our system of government. Natural gas fueling stations down the I-95 corridor would enable truckers to transport the products that Americans depend on. Commuters would be able to drive with less pollution and wear on their engines.
The existing gasoline system has taken more than 100 years to establish. A change to natural gas can’t be done immediately but would provide new jobs in all automotive fields during our current recession period.
