NEW YORK (AP) - It’s curtains for “The 39 Steps,” a small-scale spoof of the classic 1935 Alfred Hitchcock thriller.
The play will end its off-Broadway run Jan. 16 after a suspenseful time in New York. It originally made its debut on Broadway in January 2008 at the American Airlines Theatre. It then moved to the Court Theatre, and finally to the Helen Hayes Theatre. That made for a total of 771 performances.
The play then moved off-Broadway to the New Wold Stages, where it’s been playing since March. A production of the play is also playing in London and spawned a U.S. tour that ended this summer.
The comedy features a cast of just four actors who re-create all of Hitchcock’s characters with just a few props.
