WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is honoring scientists, engineers and researchers, including the inventor of the digital camera and leaders in electrochemistry and climate change research.

In an East Room ceremony Wednesday the president bestowed the National Medal of Science on 10 researchers, and gave the National Medal of Technology and Innovation to three people and a three-person team. The medals are the highest honors bestowed by the U.S. government on scientists, engineers and inventors.

Obama said the achievements showed the promise of science itself.
