KANSAS CITY, MO. (AP) - Kansas City coach Todd Haley has apologized for refusing to shake hands with Denver coach Josh McDaniels after the Chiefs’ blowout loss on Sunday.
Haley, who’s done a good job of holding his temper in check this season, declined Monday to say why he was upset after the 49-29 loss.
Haley says he probably let the emotions of the situation get to him, adding, “And I apologize. I apologize to the fans and to Denver and to Josh.”
The Broncos roared to a 35-0 lead in Sunday’s first half and went on to beat the Chiefs 49-29.
After the game, McDaniels ran toward Haley for the traditional handshake. But Haley pulled his hand away and pointed at McDaniels. He said something briefly, obviously angry, and then quickly turned his back.
In Denver, McDaniels said Monday he still had no idea why Haley was upset with him. The teams play again at in Kansas City on Dec. 5.
