MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Kevin Love has accomplished a seemingly impossible feat _ putting the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves in the national spotlight.
Love’s historic 31-point, 31-rebound effort in a come-from-behind win over the New York Knicks on Friday night made the Timberwolves a hot topic on national sports shows, talk radio and the Internet for the first time in years.
He became the first player to post a 30-30 game since Moses Malone in 1982, more than six years before Love was even born. The monster night vaulted him into the NBA lead with 14.6 rebounds per game.
After the game, Love already had more than 70 text messages congratulating him, and word quickly spread through the NBA about his big night. LeBron James, Manu Ginobili and Rudy Gay were among the many stars to congratulate Love on Twitter.
