INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indianapolis Colts receiver Austin Collie is recovering from a concussion, but he won’t be ready in time for Sunday’s game against Cincinnati.
On Wednesday, coach Jim Caldwell told reporters that Collie’s symptoms are subsiding.
“He’s making progress, I think overall, and right now I think he’s day-by-day,” Caldwell said. “It’s really in the hands of the physicians. They’re going to make a determination on that when they feel he’s clear and ready to go. But I think he’s coming along.”
The second-year receiver is recovering from a concussion he sustained last weekend at Philadelphia. After getting his hands on the ball, Collie turned to run and was sandwiched between two Eagles defenders.
Philadelphia’s Kurt Coleman lowered his shoulder to hit Collie and inadvertently had a helmet-to-helmet collision. Collie lay motionless on the field for about 10 minutes. He was placed on a backboard and taken off the field on a stretcher. At halftime, he spoke with teammates and after the game, he was seen walking around in the Colts locker room.
Doctors gave Collie clearance to return to Indy with his teammates. The hit did not result in a fine and Collie has not spoken with reporters since the hit.
Indy also waived defensive back Deshea Townsend and running back Andre Brown and has promoted receiver Brandon James from the practice squad. Caldwell said James could be returning kicks and punts this weekend for Indy.
