WASHINGTON (AP) — Virginia Sen. Jim Webb has just about had it with Washington traffic around the National Mall. In a letter Tuesday, Webb is calling on Mayor Adrian Fenty and the National Park Service to do something, saying current conditions are “unsustainable.” Webb says traffic caused by tour buses and double parking is harming tourism and the quality of life for commuters. He says the traffic congestion around the mall “must be significantly reduced.” He asked the mayor and park service to consider stepping up traffic enforcement, expanding bus parking or drop-off locations, increase visitors’ use of Metro and to coordinate tour times outside of rush hours. The National Park Service has been studying ways to improve transit around the mall.
