WASHINGTON (AP) — Washington’s attorney general has asked for a full investigation after the city apparently made an error with life insurance payments made by disabled employees.
A preliminary probe found that the disabled employees had life insurance premiums deducted from their paychecks, but a district government agency apparently failed to transfer the payments — between $3 million and $6 million — to insurance providers. The preliminary probe indicated that premiums from about 1,400 city workers were not paid for about seven years.
Attorney General Peter Nickles said at a news conference Tuesday that he did not know how the funds were spent but that a follow-up investigation by the city’s inspector general would determine that.
