WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington region will soon hear from the National Transportation Safety Board about what caused a Metrorail crash that killed nine people last summer.
The NTSB will hear from investigators during a daylong hearing Tuesday, then vote on the probable cause of the crash and recommendations to avoid a similar tragedy.
Metro says it is working to comply with recommendations the NTSB made in the months after the crash and it’s putting aside $30 million over three years to carry through on recommendations that may come out of the NTSB’s meeting Tuesday.
Eight passengers and a train operator were killed and dozens injured when a train slammed into another stopped on the tracks between the Fort Totten and Takoma stations in June 2009.
