Former Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean on Sunday lashed out at Fox News, accusing the conservative cable network of racism in reporting about the resignation of Agriculture Department official Shirley Sherrod and other stories.

“I think Fox News did something that was absolutely racist,” Mr. Dean, a former Democratic National Committee chairman and Vermont governor, said on “Fox News Sunday.” He also said Fox has taken a racist position in reporting on the Justice Department investigation of New Black Panther members outside a Philadelphia voting station during the 2008 elections.

“The ’tea party’ has called out its racist fringe,” Mr. Dean said.

“Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace pointed out that Fox did not play the out-of-context video clip of Mrs. Sherrod until after she was forced to resign week.
