When it comes to energy, our elected representatives need to choose between siding with America’s future and continuing to rely on imported oil from some hostile regimes (“Senators optimistic on energy bill but sticking points remain,” Web, News, Tuesday).

The majority of Americans want to keep drilling for oil here in the United States.Despite the Gulf oil spill, it makes no sense to attack our oil companies or impose a moratorium against any new drilling. We do not shut down air travel when there’s a plane crash or prohibit shipping when a freighter runs aground.

On the contrary, we need to drill and find more oil - and we should not be threatened by doomsayers with talk of an impending crisis of global warming. That’s all hogwash. Do not pass any ill-advised climate legislation.
