MIAMI | Bees caused the latest buzz at the Florida Marlins’ ballpark.
An area near the visitors’ bullpen became infested, with one entire section of seats and part of another roped off for Saturday night’s game against Washington.
Nationals reliever Drew Storen said a security guard told him there was a hive of bees.
“Fortunately, we didn’t see them,” Storen said. “I’m obviously not a big fan of bees - brings back bad childhood memories. It would have been a bad distraction.”
Marlins left fielder Chris Coghlan said he saw bees in the stands while stretching before the game.
“There were a whole bunch of them,” Coghlan said. “I didn’t see any during the game.”
Dozens of bees nested on the arm of a seat during the game, and some swarmed in the nearby aisle. An usher keeping fans away said he was unaware of anyone being stung.
A bee removal company called I’ll Bee There was dispatched to dispose of the insects.
