The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is an effete organization - exhausted of energy and purpose, spent. And they know it, as do their donors. They are scared of disappearing into the dark purgatory where irrelevant but still proud groups go to lick their wounds before finally rendering unto reality what changing times demand and giving up the ghost.

By redefining what it means to be black by adding a liberal political criterion to skin pigmentation, the NAACP cheapens its brand while producing fodder for those who see the group as living on borrowed time and dime. By charging that the Tea Party contains racist elements without proffering evidence of same (“Kill the crackers,” editorials, Wednesday), while at the same time refusing to decry racist elements within the New Black Panthers and black liberation theological groups, they risk coddling the same despicable bias they ostensibly oppose when the colors are reversed. Does today’s NAACP really believe that racism is a one-way street?

It is ironic in the extreme that the faltering course being followed by the organization will cheer only the naive and misguided among us including the vestiges of the KKK.
