It is great that the International Criminal Court recently issued genocide charges against Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir to go along with the charges of crimes against humanity issued against him last year (“Sudan leader charged with three counts of genocide,” Geopolitics, Tuesday).

But the charges have come a little too late, as Lt. Gen. al-Bashir has been responsible for murdering, imprisoning or displacing millions of opponents over the past seven or so years. If the charges had been made far sooner, perhaps the lives of millions of people could have been saved or improved.

But unless Lt. Gen. al-Bashir can be brought to justice, the charges will be meaningless. Now the $64,000 question is, how will the ICC be able to arrest him and bring him to trial, especially since it has no police force of its own?
