WASHINGTON (AP) - The Federal Communications Commission has restarted its review of Comcast’s plan to take control of NBC Universal. That is happening after the companies provided the agency with additional details about their businesses.
Comcast Corp. is seeking FCC and Justice Department approval to acquire a 51 percent stake in NBC Universal from General Electric Co. Federal regulators are expected to approve the deal with conditions attached.
The FCC had sought detailed information about Comcast’s and NBC’s businesses, but informed the companies last month that their answers weren’t good enough. The agency halted its review while it awaited revised responses.
The FCC typically tries to complete merger reviews within 180 days, although it doesn’t always make this deadline. The agency says it’s now 45 days into the review of the deal.
