NEW YORK (AP) - ABC’s Christiane Amanpour (AH’-mahn-pore) officially joins the Sunday morning talk world on Aug. 1.
ABC said Tuesday that the former CNN international reporter begins as host of “This Week” in less than three weeks. Amanpour was a surprise hire to replace George Stephanopoulos (stehf-uh-NAHP’-uh-luhs) on the Sunday political show, which competes with NBC’s “Meet the Press” and CBS’ “Face the Nation.”
With an August start, ABC wants Amanpour to get in the Sunday morning rhythm and get a few shows done before the political season starts in earnest.
Jake Tapper has filled in as host for the past several months.
