LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. (AP) - The New York Yankees have made their first formal contract offer to Cliff Lee.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman says the team presented a proposal. He didn’t say how much it was worth or for how many years.

Lee’s agent, Darek Braunecker, was at the site of baseball’s winter meetings on Wednesday.

The Texas Rangers and Yankees have been considered the leading candidates to land Lee, the prize pitcher in the free-agent market.
