Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi recently said that certain economists have stated that providing government unemployment benefits isthe best way to create jobs because for every unemployment dollar spent, two dollars are generated through purchases of necessities that create demand for products that create jobs.

According to Mrs. Pelosi’s scenario, the U.S. economy should be booming with very low unemployment. Instead, the unemployment rate has increased from 9.6 percent to 9.8 percent over the last year when tens of billions of tax dollars have been distributed for unemployment benefits.

I urge Mrs. Pelosi and like-minded politicians to consult more knowledgeable economists before making any more decisions about how to grow the U.S. economy and create jobs in the future. We deserve no less.
