CINCINNATI (AP) - The Cincinnati Reds and Bronson Arroyo have agreed to a new contract that added two years through 2013 and $23.5 million in new money.
After a season when the right-hander won a career-best 17 games last season, the Reds exercised an $11.5 million option last month. Friday’s agreement adds two seasons and includes deferred money through 2021.
Arroyo went 17-10 with a 3.88 ERA in 33 starts this year, helping Cincinnati win the NL Central title. He has made at least 32 starts and pitched at least 200 innings in each of the last six seasons.
The Reds acquired Arroyo and cash from the Boston Red Sox for outfielder Wily Mo Pena in 2006. The 33-year-old Arroyo is 70-60 with a 3.97 ERA in five seasons with Cincinnati.
