The WikiLeaks revelations are awful, concerning and wrong. Despite this, they have revealed an overreaching, embarrassing and rather juvenile State Department.

The focus of this State Department seems entirely misguided, devoting too much time to America’s allies instead of the threats in the world. Secretary of State Hilary Rodham Clinton’s communications are entirely Orwellian in nature, and the Obama administration has boasted about “smart power,” claiming it is going to restore America’s reputation in the world.

The United States has been dramatically damaged. This is a fiasco for our nation, and although I greatly oppose the leaker and the leaking, the content is truly damaging to Mrs. Clinton and the department she heads. The public-relations issue alone is beyond titanic proportions and cannot be ignored. Nor can Mrs. Clinton fix the mess alone - her image on the international stage is far too damaged.

I have to believe the United States would be best served with a reset at the State Department. It seems the only way we can begin recovering some credibility. It is time for Mrs. Clinton to move on.
