ARLINGTON, TEXAS (AP) - Stephen McGee has taken a step toward becoming the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys this weekend.

For the first time in his two-year career, McGee ran the first-team offense Wednesday. Jon Kitna watched from the sideline in street clothes.

Interim coach Jason Garrett has said Kitna would start Sunday against Philadelphia if he’s healthy. He has a strained abdominal muscle.

McGee played an NFL game for the first time last Saturday at Arizona. He started the year as the third-stringer, but has moved up because of injuries to Tony Romo and Kitna.
