Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck left Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay with a hip injury and did not return.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said it’s likely that Hasselbeck, scheduled to undergo an MRI exam Monday, won’t practice this week in preparation for Seattle’s game against St. Louis next Sunday for the NFC West title.
“We’ll watch closely what happened with Matt,” Carroll said. “We’ll have to see how that works out. We’ll give him all week. Just rest him and see what happens.”
Hasselbeck was hurt on a 1-yard touchdown run in which he rolled out of the pocket to his right and ran into the end zone untouched with 2:50 remaining in the opening quarter. He bent over for a moment, started to walk off the field and then stopped again before sitting down in the end zone.
“It just got real tight on me real fast,” said Hasselbeck of two muscles in the hip. “That was disappointing. I tried to come around real quick and it’s just how I hurt it.”
Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey left the game against Houston with a right ankle injury.
The perennial Pro Bowl selection threw down his helmet shortly after a collision with Texans tight end Owen Daniels midway through the third quarter and then hobbled to the sideline.
Bailey attempted to walk off the injury along the Broncos’ bench, but quickly traded his helmet for a stocking cap.
San Diego Chargers running back Mike Tolbert sprained his neck and shoulder on a scary hit against the Cincinnati Bengals, but is expected to fully recover.
Tolbert put his head down and ran into the chest of safety Reggie Nelson during the first quarter of a 34-20 loss. Tolbert fumbled and stayed face-down on the field, motionless for several minutes.
Doctors carefully rolled him onto a backboard, strapped him down and wheeled him off the field. He raised his right forearm and gave a thumbs-up sign to the applauding crowd.
Teammates said Tolbert was walking around the locker room after the game.
“He’s doing fine,” coach Norv Turner said. “He has a sprained shoulder and neck. He’s got all the feeling back in his hands. He’ll be all right.”
Also, 49ers backup CB Phillip Adams broke his left ankle blocking on the kickoff to open the second half against the Rams.
Detroit wide receiver Calvin Johnson sat out the fourth quarter against Miami after he aggravated an ankle injury. Coach Jim Schwartz said his status was day to day. Lions cornerback Chris Houston injured a shoulder in the first half. Also, Miami tight end Anthony Fasano hurt a knee in the fourth quarter, and tackle Lydon Murtha suffered a head injury. Defensive back Nolan Carroll left with a concussion in the first half.
