WASHINGTON (AP) — A D.C. fire official says more than 150 firefighters were called to battle a three-alarm fire at a school in northwest Washington.
D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Pete Piringer says firefighters received a call about the fire at the Takoma Educational Center on Piney Branch Road about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, and arrived to find heavy fire coming from the roof.
Piringer says the school was closed for the holidays. He says only a few staff members were in the building, but no one was injured.
Piringer says there was extensive damage to the school. He says renovation work was being done to the roof at the time.
The school says on its website that it teaches students from preschool to 8th grade.
