ATLANTA (AP) - Hawks star Joe Johnson has had surgery on his injured right elbow and will be begin rehab on Friday.
Johnson underwent arthroscopic surgery Thursday on his elbow in a 25-minute procedure performed by orthopedist Dr. James Andrews at a clinic in Pensacola, Fla. Hawks spokesman Arthur Triche says the “surgery went fine.”
The four-time All-Star is expected to be out four to six weeks.
Atlanta announced at the start of Wednesday night’s game against Memphis that Johnson would need the surgery to remove a “loose body” in the elbow.
Johnson has said the elbow has caused discomfort “off and on” this season. He told The Associated Press Wednesday that “it just got unbearable” Tuesday.
