OPINION:
If you consider that the Gulf of Mexico covers about 615,000 square miles at an average water depth of about one mile, and one estimate of the oil leaked during the recent Deepwater Horizon oil spill is approximately 205.8 million gallons, it really puts things into perspective (“Obama to Gulf: Drop dead,” Comment & Analysis, Wednesday).
This puts the volume of leaked oil at .00000003 percent of the total volume occupied by the Gulf. Apparently, one of Mr. Obama’s mottos is “Never let a good crisis go to waste - even if it is phony.”
