ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is endorsing Republican Brian Murphy instead of former Gov. Robert Ehrlich for the GOP nomination in Maryland’s governor’s race.
Mrs. Palin announced the endorsement Wednesday on her Facebook page.
The former Alaska governor praises Mr. Murphy for being a commonsense conservative and a firm believer in the free market.
She also mentions that Mr. Murphy is a former energy industry executive and current small business owner with private sector experience needed in government.
Mr. Ehrlich became the first Republican Maryland governor in 36 years when he won in 2002. Mr. Ehrlich was defeated by Gov. Martin O’Malley in 2006. A recent poll indicated that Mr. Ehrlich and Mr. O’Malley are in a very close race in a rematch.
