OPINION:
President Obama, even after more than a year-and-a-half in office, has not been able to put enough pressure on different wings of his administration to work in harmony rather than at cross purposes.
The latest instance to come to light is the bribing of a close aide of Afghan President Hamid Karzai by the CIA while the Obama administration pressures the scandal-ridden Afghan government to fight corruption (“Karzai: Security firms disbanded to halt corruption,” Web, News, Aug. 22).
Persistent reports of the Obama administration’s double-dealing tactics in international affairs have dented its credibility. Mr. Obama’s advisers would do well to mend fences with allies who have turned critical of the administration’s policy of hunting with the hound and running with the hare.
