TEMPORARY REPREIVE: India is withdrawing its threat to ban BlackBerry services for at least 60 more days. The deadline had been Tuesday for BlackBerry maker Research In Motion Ltd. to give security officials lawful access to encrypted data.

UNTIL THEN: India’s Department of Telecommunications will study the feasibility of routing BlackBerry services through a server in India.

NOT KNOWN: India’s Ministry of Home Affairs says RIM made certain proposals for lawful access by law enforcement, but it’s not clear what those concessions were. RIM declined comment.
