WASHINGTON (AP) — Some Washington sports stars have been out in force to help prepare the city’s school buildings for the first day of classes.
Washington Capitals defenseman Mike Green spent Saturday working at Powell Elementary in the Petworth neighborhood, along with other volunteers. They worked on gardening, painting, cleaning and decorating projects.
The Capitals are adopting Powell Elementary this year to help raise funds for improvements. The team will host students at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington for a skating and pizza party at the end of the year.
Some players from D.C. United were working at Ketchum Elementary.
