NEW YORK (AP) - Alex Rodriguez has been pulled for a pinch-hitter after just one at-bat in his return to the New York Yankees’ lineup.
Rodriguez had missed the past three games because of a strained left calf. He started as the designated hitter Friday night against Seattle and grounded out to third base in his one at-bat, jogging gingerly to first on the play.
Austin Kearns batted for him in the fourth inning and struck out with a runner on third.
A-Rod said before the game that he would be cautious on the base paths and that he did not know when he would play third base again.
The Yankees slugger says he hurt his calf during an at-bat in the fourth inning of Monday night’s game against Detroit.
