BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Free-agent defenseman Shaone (SHAWN) Morrisonn has agreed to a two-year contract with the Buffalo Sabres.

Morrisonn is a seven-year NHL veteran who spent the past five-plus seasons with the Washington Capitals. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 217 pounds, he was consistently among the Capitals leaders in hits and blocked shots.

He was selected 19th overall in the 2001 draft by Boston, and broke into the NHL the following season with the Bruins. Morrisonn has 10 goals and 60 assists and 423 penalty minutes in 418 games.

The deal was announced by the Sabres on Monday.

Buffalo, which signed defenseman Jordan Leopold last month, is retooling its defense after losing Henrik Tallinder and Toni Lydman in free agency this summer.
