LATROBE, PA. (AP) - Steelers coach Mike Tomlin says quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will play in Saturday’s exhibition game against the New York Giants, but isn’t saying whether he will start the game.
Just as he did before last week’s game against the Detroit Lions in which Roethlisberger didn’t play, Tomlin is declining to announce a starter in advance.
Roethlisberger has worked with the starting offense most of this week at training camp, an indication he will open the game. Byron Leftwich started against the Lions and wound up playing nearly twice as long as expected.
Leftwich is expected start while Roethlisberger is suspended for up to six games in the regular season.
