A 1928 Mediterranean-style home that enjoys a convenient Chevy Chase, Md., location on Connecticut Avenue is on the market for $1,729,000.

The white stucco home with black shutters stands out among its lush green surroundings of mature trees and shrubbery. Its address at 7602 Connecticut Ave. puts it within easy access of major commuter routes as well as many shopping and dining options.

The house, which has an open floor plan, has four bedrooms and 5½ baths and has been renovated within the past five years.

With a professionally manicured yard that includes landscape lighting, the owners seem to have given just as much attention to the outside as the inside when making renovations.

A brick walkway leads to an arched front door. Once inside, the first thing guests will notice is that when the door closes, the hustle and bustle of Connecticut Avenue just seems to fade away.

Polished marble flooring highlights the foyer, which opens to the formal living room on one side and the dining room on the other. Both rooms are accessed through a set of French doors and have golden oak hardwood floors.

The living room houses one of the home’s three fireplaces. This travertine-wrapped gas fireplace helps turn the large living room into a cozy retreat. The living room stretches from the front of the home to the back and has panoramic outdoor views in three directions.

Doors on each side of the fireplace open onto a covered side porch with stamped-concrete floors that has multiple arched entryways. The porch also can be used to access the lovely, parklike fenced backyard, which has a stamped-concrete terrace. There are no worries about cutting grass, as the yard is bordered by landscaping and the oversized patio.

Across the hall from the living room, the formal dining room is an elegant space for dinner parties. A dramatic crystal chandelier hangs above the table and is believed to be an original from the home’s first owner. A similar, but smaller, chandelier hangs in the foyer.

The dining room opens directly into a private library with French doors and built-ins. The golden oak hardwood flooring continues in this room and throughout the rest of the main level and second floor.

The owners, who enjoy entertaining in their home’s versatile indoor and outdoor gathering spots, expanded the house with a well-blended addition. They added a family room with a fireplace featuring a tumbled-marble surround and an adjoining breakfast area to the side of the home.

Floor-to-ceiling arched windows flank the fireplace, while a flat-screen television sits above it. The family room also has built-in display shelves and recessed lighting that helps brighten the room when the sun goes down.

An impressive cream-colored kitchen was renovated in 2006 from a 1980s-era design to a state-of-the-art kitchen with upgrades galore. Stylish and functional, the kitchen includes ample counter and cabinet space.

The owners added 42-inch raised-panel cabinetry with under-cabinet lighting and beveled-edge Silestone counters with a porcelain tile backsplash. Upgraded appliances include a Sub-Zero refrigerator-freezer, Bosch dishwasher and an Aga gas range.

Nearby, a mudroom leads to the roomy two-car garage, which backs to the alley behind the house.

A wrought-iron banister decorates the staircase that leads to the second floor. This sunny level features a skylight at the top of the stairs. Many of the rooms on this level were renovated in 2006, including the luxurious master-bedroom suite.

The highlight of this room is a custom built-in couch unit with a gas fireplace. Upon further inspection, guests will notice an expansive dressing room with his-and-hers walk-in closets, complete with built-in organizers.

Imported marble flooring, two comfort-height cherry vanities and an oversized shower with dual spray heads are among the features found in the master bath. In addition to the shower, there’s a separate claw-foot-like soaking tub.

There are three more baths and three more bedrooms on this floor, as well as a room with French doors in use as the owners’ home office.

There’s a walk-up lower level where the owners created a new entertainment room with Berber carpeting and recessed lights. There’s also full bath on this level with designer ceramic tile floor, and a large storage room.
