MCLEAN, VA. (AP) - Jeff Webber, the publisher of USAToday.com, will retire Nov. 1, the newspaper said Wednesday.
The change comes at a time when USA Today, like most other newspapers, is trying to offset a steep decline in print advertising by bringing more money from the Web and other digital products, such as an application for Apple Inc.’s iPad.
The falloff in print advertising, USA Today’s main source of income, has triggered layoffs and furloughs at the Gannett Co.’s largest newspaper during the past two years.
Webber, who declined to provide his age, has been working at USA Today for the past 25 years. He has spent the past decade overseeing the newspaper’s website.
