OPINION:
As initial jobless claims continue to rise, the prospect of Obamacare’s widened coverage is spiking health insurance premiums - and as those premiums go up, employers become more fearful of adding new employees (“Ailing public sector leads in layoffs,” Page 1, Monday).
How can we increase employment and rescue the economy? Well, the cause would be helped if constitutional challenges nullified Obamacare. If that does not happen, a Republican Congress will not have enough votes to overturn Obamacare in the face of a presidential veto. However, perhaps the Republicans could legalize the sale of health insurance across state lines and bring about tort reform. Those badly needed measures would swiftly reduce the cost of health insurance, and the president, in view of his sinking popularity, might fear opposing them.
